Job duties of the role:
The Senior Estimator is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely preparation of estimate proposals for new construction and project remodels. This role involves developing and implementing estimating procedures that might be necessary, leading and mentoring others on the estimating team, and collaborating with the operations team and project managers to ensure project success. You will play a critical role in bidding and securing new projects while maintaining high standards of accuracy and efficiency.
Main responsibilities are required as follows:
1. Estimating:
- Oversee the preparation of estimates for construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Implement standardized estimating procedures
- Ensure estimates are accurate, competitive, and completed by the required timeframe.
2. Leadership and Management:
- Supervise and work with the estimating team, providing guidance and support.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to estimating team
- Foster a collaborative and positive work environment within the estimators.
3. Project Bidding:
- Collaborate with the pre-construction team of the general contractor or client and project management teams to identify potential projects and bid opportunities.
- Review project specifications, drawings, and other documents to prepare comprehensive estimate proposal.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits only as necessary to gather information for accurate bid proposals.
4. Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with project managers, superintendents, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure accurate estimates proposals are being submitted.
- Communicate with clients, providing detailed breakouts and explanations of proposals.
- Maintain strong relationships with vendors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing.
Job knowledge, skills and abilities required to undertake the role
· Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in construction estimating, with at least 2-4 years in a supervisory role.
· Strong knowledge of construction and estimating, materials, and industry standards.
· Proficiency in estimating software and tools (Bluebeam, Procore, OnScreen Takeoff).
· Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
· Self-perform and driven to succeed.
· Has experience in managing multiple clients.
· Knowledge of construction
